5 tips to make the most of Summer

Published 9 months ago • 2 min read

Sun’s out, (language) journals out!

Any and all the times of the year are perfect for learning a language, but there is something about Summer that gets us polishing up our French to flirt with the locals, n'est pas? It makes sense since learning the basics can easily take you from an ignorant tourist to someone worthy of an insider's only travel core memory. Just a few minutes of studying a day can take you to the heart of the action. What started off as a few innocent vocab words escalated all the way to the cozy home of a sweet Greek grandmother who's feeding you the best-made bougatsa of your life. Never heard of it? Go to Thessaloniki in Greece, and bring your empty stomach and your Lactaid.

Language opens your mind, world, and tastebuds to more life than you could ever imagine, and it would be a shame to live less life, non?

Are you traveling soon?

Whether you’ll get on a plane during the following weeks or you’re keen to travel through the pages of your journal, our 21 ay Language Learning challenge is here to help you get fluentish!

Also, our team gathered some extra recommendations to show you how to make the most of the Summer months (and beyond!).

Happy journaling,
The JoClub Team

This month's favorites:

My Hot Girl Self-Investment: “If it cannot be measured, it cannot be managed” — Peter Drucker. I splurged for my birthday and bought myself an Oura ring - I’m officially a biohacker. If you’ve never heard of the Oura ring, it’s a sleek ring with tiny sensors that track your heart rate, sleeping patterns, period predictions, and more. It’s wild that so much happens in our bodies that we know nothing about. What pushed me to buy it was my battle with crappy sleep; jet lag has quickly become “life lag.” I’ve been wearing my Oura Ring daily and have started to see the exact moments my heart rate elevates, I now not only measure but attack my stress monster at the root. I’m in my 30s now and without rest growth is impossible. Get the Oura Ring here. Jo Franco, JoClub Founder

Doodling my packing plans: I love making a “visual checklist” in my journal before I begin packing. I visualize everything I need and draw it all into a doodle. Without this visual tool, I’d probably forget something really important! (Like that time I left home for two weeks without backup contact lenses or glasses) Jami, JoClub Facilitator

#HotLanguageSummer: we’ve said it before but we’ll say it again. This is the season of language learning, and we’re truly celebrating it! Our 21 ay Language challenge finished, but we just made it evergreen. Get it here and learn languages at your own pace. JoClub Team

Enjoying what’s in season: I highly recommend enjoying some heirloom tomatoes if they are available where you live. I have been serving them as a simple but impressive appetizer: I cover a plate with a thin layer of olive oil and arrange slices of tomato on top. I garnish with basil, salt, and capers. You can add whatever you like, really. It can look really fancy, but it’s so simple! I serve it with bread. Liz, JoClub Facilitator

Summer reads: My #1 book recommendation is Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés. This book has been life-changing for me in many ways related to personal growth. For anyone wanting to connect more with their intuition or feeling like they need a jump start on the journey of self-exploration, I can’t recommend this book enough! Kristen, JoClub Facilitator

Hello hello lovely people! This month we’re sharing the story of one of our most creative members who light up the room every time she joins a session. Kim has been with us for a while and we’re so happy to hear (and share) the story of how she joined JoClub!! The JoClub Team Last summer I went to Staples and bought this cheap soft-cover grid notebook. I was in the midst of the worst bout of burnout I had in a while and I had a mighty need to rant about it on paper. This cycle happens almost...

Hi there, journaler Now that we’re closer to the last quarter of the year (what!?) it’s important to take a step back and plan out the next three months. As you probably could have guessed, journaling is our favorite tool to reflect, assess, and plan. However, to make the most out of it, it’s important to understand what you want from journaling. What do you expect to get from this practice? What is your intention? We asked you about intention-setting on Wednesday and you shared a lot of cool...
